I was extremely anxious to find out the gender of our baby. I talked with friends of mine and they suggested to do a few gender prediction tests at home. Although the accuracy rate is all over the place, I was curious. I decided to try a few different tests and compare them to the actual results. Typically you can find out the gender of your baby when you are between 18-20 weeks pregnant. However, some individuals decide to do genetic testing and figure out the gender earlier. We waited until my mid-pregnancy ultrasound to find out the gender which was when I was 19 weeks.
Some pregnant women have an inkling of what the gender is going to be. Personally, I thought it was going to be a girl due to some old wives tales that I've heard. I craved sweets, chocolate, and also experienced more acne than usual. We eventually found out that we were having a boy and I was totally wrong! If you have ever been curious if gender prediction tests are accurate or not, keep reading. Remember, results may vary!
Here is a list of the gender prediction tests that I tried.
1. The Chinese Gender Predictor Test
2. The Baking Soda Gender Test
3. The Ring Gender Test
4. The Mayan Gender Predictor Test
The Chinese Gender Predictor Test
It takes the month that the baby was conceived and the age of the mom at the time of conception to determine the baby's sex. I conceived the baby during the month of October and I was 21 years old. The test said that I would have a girl.
Conclusion: Incorrect
The Baking Soda Gender Test
You mix equal parts of urine and baking soda together. If it fizzes, the gender is said to be a boy. If it does not react, the gender is said to be a girl. I did see a tiny bit of fizz at first but it mostly remained the same and did not react. The test stated that you would clearly know if it would fizz so I said it did not react.
Conclusion: Incorrect
The Ring Gender Test
You tie a string to your wedding ring and have another person hold the ring by the string over your belly while you are lying down. If the ring would swing in a circle, the gender is said to be a girl. If the ring swings back and forth, the gender is said to be a boy. My ring went in a circle. Note: I completed this by myself and did not have another person hold the string for me so this could be where I went wrong.
Conclusion: Incorrect
The Mayan Gender Predictor Test
Similar to the Chinese Gender Predictor Test, the Mayan's use the year that the baby was conceived and the age of the mom at the time of conception. If the numbers are both even or odd, the gender is said to be a girl. If the numbers are even and odd, the gender is said to be a boy. Our baby was conceived in 2019 and I was 21 years old at the time.
Conclusion: Incorrect
All in all, the four tests that I completed turned out to be incorrect predictions of my baby's gender. The accuracy rate is said to be 50/50 and may work for some moms but it did not work for me! These are just a fun way to pass time during pregnancy and see if any of the tests were actually correct! Some moms only had old wives tales and gender prediction tests to rely on!
